Simple and economical, the Waterloo Emitter™ enables oxygen or other bioenhancing amendments to uniformly release through silicone or LDPE tubing in a controlled manner. This process encourages and sustains the growth of microorganisms required for in-situ bioremediation of contaminated groundwater. Due to its unique technology, virtually any chemical can be used as an amendment to treat contaminated groundwater. A sampling device can be inserted within the PVC pipe in order to observe monitor changing conditions during the remediation process. Emitters are ideal for the bioremediation of BTEX and MTBE using oxygen. Waterloo Emitters can also be used to encourage desirable abiotic reactions (pH adjustment, hydrolysis, etc.).
This patented technology consists of a PVC frame wrapped with tubing that can be pressurized to obtain the desired diffusive transfer of gas. Available to fit 2", 4" or 6" wells, Waterloo Emitters can be stacked within one well to monitor 3 or more zones or can be joined from one well to another, to allow the controlled diffusion of gas into the plume. They can be permanently installed with sand packs in boreholes or trenches and are also effective in horizontal applications. Waterloo Emitters can be used at any depth because no minimum hydraulic head is required. The radius of influence is boosted when used in conjunction with packers and/or circulating pumps.
By adding oxygen to the subsurface, the breakdown of chemical contaminants by microorganisms is improved. By utilizing oxygen, Waterloo Emitters can make cleanups faster, more economical and more effective.
